Analysis of music video Labrith – Let the sun shine

Within this assignment I analysed this music video as it with give me an idea of the codes and conventions used within existing products. I chose to analyse Labrith – let the sun shine his genre is RnB. I looked at the characteristics of this music video, the video seem to be filed within four different sets and within a studio which as audience we are constantly shown. Within this video the edits go fast and are majority straight cuts but we are also shown switch of edits by flashes. I also found at the beginning of the video the edits anchored the music well which is a main convention within this genre.
As the audience we are not shown a big performance we are simply shown a male singer, singing his song which shows a new artist within the industry as we are not placed in a recognisable building or recognisable surroundings.
This music video isn’t stereotyped to the music video if the present day as majority of music videos is simple dancing in big groups and being placed in massive buildings.

I looked at the conventions of camera angles, the video opens with a mid shot of the artist which I believe to be an important convention as it shows the audience who they are listening to and seems to be simple. As the video went on many mid/longs shots were used and had minimum close up.
The lighting within this music video seems to be studio lighting. It seemed to be flashes and incidental lighting (lamps, through doors).
The dress codes within this videa seems to be casual stereotype male and then we a shown the male in the suit which shows a sence of maturity. We are shown the stereotype of the famels roll within a music video as the female seems to be a bikini and she is simply there just for the auidence to looks at, the lighting is dim and get brighter with the flash to establish the artist and the women.

Analysis of Trailer - Ugly Truth July 2009
I had to analysed this trailer as I need to get a understand of conventions used within a trailer as well as the meaning the mise en scene the effects used to place the viewer in a place and the most important convention of a trailer is the music which it something I need to concentrate on and get the correct message across. Typical convention which I have seen from the start is a green screen which has websites on, sponsors, detail of contents as well as age requirements.
The trailer starts with an establishing shot of New York City this connotates that we are in a main city; professionals and our character are going to be middle aged.
To switch the scenes this trailers uses flashes this connotates telling a story time passing, we are then shown a scene from the film which introduces the one of the main characters (Katherine Heigl) we are taken straight to the main male character  (Gerard Butler) we enters the scenes popping his head around the corner. Mise en scene shows us that we are in an office (working environment) we are taking into the board room which shows the main female at the head of the table which connotates her power within the movie.
Music from the start is low key the use of individuals notes build us up to a story. It is used to simply introduce the characters and some background knowledge. Lighting is natural lighting the trailer always seem to be bright we are never shown a dark scene only when we are placed in a restaurant the romantic lighting I introduced.  This type of writing is a convention of a romcom trailer. We are almost given lessons within this trailer to how to win a guy over, this is then introduced by the upbeat music and the edits are then made quicker than a development of the main female character is introduced as a sexy women which we are shown by a long shot in which her dress is tight fitting and enhances figure and we are shown the idea that the male is training this women.

Throughout the trailer the dialogue is specific to wanting to make the audience laugh which I believe is a main convention as the audience is meant to see the comedy side which this film has to offer as well as the romance.

Over the shoulder shots are used to show conversation between the two characters as well as close up shots when having a conversation is to show the comical side of the film, shot reverse shots are also used to allow jokes to be told and again introduce the comical effect by the characters reaction.

The inter titles are introduced by a drop down effects and also shown in section to give the audience time to read and the colours used give an idea of unisex as both black and pink is used.

The title of the film is not shown till the end which is a main convention and within the trailer the use of imagery also shows the idea that this is a unisex film but has a main target audience to the females.

Analysis of 500 days of summer trailer

Begins with mid shot of main character this is showing them having a conversation the idea of strangers as they have social connection which is shown from his face.
We get digetic sound of music from head phones this may enhance the idea of youth or characters who are within their 20’s as the style of dress and the fact the character is listening to music.
We are shown pictres from their childhood which could suggest this has always been their dream or could be giving us a better undersatinging with the charcters and the idea we are not meant to hate them this enhances the idea of it being in the romance genre rather than the horror/thriller or sci fi genre.
We get a voice over telling us a brief story, the voice over is male this be an convention towards voice over. We get told it is a love story ‘boy meets girl’  but the get contradiction with the voice over  ‘you should know this is not a love story’ which causing confusion, what is this story about but from the shots we see this is actually a love story but maybe just from the male perspective. No fast edits are used 1 minute into trailer; there is a slow pace towards this trailer which isn’t conventional within this genre.
We get Inter titles ‘day 1’ this letting us know we are about to get better understanding of what we are going to be shown. Straight shots are used to switch edits which again isn’t conventional towards the genre. Establishing shots/ close ups and mid shots are all used. Towards the end a dissolve to black screen get used to switch edits and introduce inter titles. At the end of trailer music get louder and edits become more faster this again isn’t conventional as in other trailer to music is much more important and a lot more shots and edits are used. Finally the trailer shows this isn’t a conventional trailer, the stereotype isn’t used for the women wanting love but it is actually the male trying to find love and hoping to find it within his daily life.
