Evaluation

Within my production I had to create a video and two print based pieces. I had a choice from 5 options, I chose to do a trailer, create a poster and produce a magazine cover. Within this production I had to show my creativity and use new programs in order to make my productions conventional.

Within my video production I followed conventions by showing the key moments within the film and not showing too much of dialogue, which I believe I may have shown too much visual to the viewer which looses their interest and gives the audience to much information of what is going to happen in the film. Putting the title at the end and the release date following I believe this also makes it conventional. I have not added music to my trailer which is unconventional and this would not be the case for any trailer as music sets the atmosphere of the film as well as stating the genre. I have kept my trailer short as this works towards the ideology of this production, the audience want a trailer which it going to state key points.
Within my print base productions I believe I have made them conventional. My poster had to send the correct message across and attract the right audience. I have chosen feminine colours to connote the Rom-Com genre, which would also attract a female audience. I have followed the conventions of layout by placing the character names at the top, the image is centred, the production companies at the bottom, I have also put a website on and given details of director ,actors/actresses, designer ECT and finally I have placed a tag line on the left to connote the genre, to go against codes and conventions I have used the colour black and used less colour which I believe works better through the simplicity and doesn’t look amateur through too much colour or effects.
My magazine cover is also conventional towards the purpose. I chose dark colours due to this seemed to be conventional towards current film magazines. I looked close at details on current film magazines such as price, layout, colours and text. I believe I have followed and understood the conventions and this is apparent in my final piece. I have challenged real media products by having a number of colours, although I have kept a consistency of black and blue, I have also used pink to connote the genre of my film which I believe doesn’t work to the best outcome I was aiming for. I have followed conventions by placing the title at the top; I have also given my magazine cover a strap line. I have stated made up films on my front cover to also work towards the conventions as this connotes the information which the magazine has.

From my audience feedback I got positive and negative views, although majority did like my print based productions they were not so keen on my video, as they all agreed that I needed music to make it conventional. I received good feedback on my creativity and that I had explored good techniques when experimented with programs, I found that my audience feedback believed I used good pre-existing codes and conventions such as logos, images and layout. My feedback also told me that I had challenged codes and conventions such as using the colour black on my poster as well as using minimal colours which I believed worked well but to my audience this was something they didn’t expect to see. Although I got positive feedback, there was negative such as making text more clear and making the effects more neater.

Throughout this project I have constantly been recording my work through an online blog (blogger.com). Through this technology I was able to upload videos and pictures which I had critically analysed to get a full understanding of the type of codes and conventions I would use to make my own work conventional towards my target audience.
For my video production piece I used a program called final cut pro which is a new program which I have not used and found many difficulties to express my creativity through this program, although I did understand the basic and did eventually find techniques and methods I do believe that my inexperience was apparent through my main production piece.
For both my print based pieces I created solely on Photoshop which I had advanced knowledge on due to past experiences. I believe that my knowledge with this program is perceptible through my work, and I showed my creativity in a controlled and conventional form. Manipulating images such as the existing production companies (Columbia pictures and lakeshore) in order to make them fit with my colour schemes was something I found to be a talent as it was not a simple process but with using the correct programs I was able to make this possible. Using the internet was

Final Poster

This is my final poster to advertise my trailer. I believe that I have made it conventional, and y target audience would want to watch this film.
To improve this poster I believe I could of improved more on the editing skills which would have made it much more neater.

Poster development

These poster show the process which i have gone through to get my final advertising poster. For my first poster I wanted to keep the park in the background as it gave location and seemed more conventional towards he Rom-Com genre, but I found it didn't work as well as what i hoped for. As my poster developed I decided to change the title from '5 steps to getting a girl' to 'Get The Girl' I think that having a short title is much more conventional and audience have more interest. I decided to keep the plain background as it gave more attention toward the main characters and the simplicity works well with this genre. I chose feminine colours such as pink and white as it connotes the genre, and would attract my target audience. Using programs such as photoshop as helped me get a professional look throughout my work and also I have been able to get the correct conventions when involving the layout, colours, images effect and fonts.

Change of story

My poster development for 'Cupid Strikes Again' is no longer the story I will be taking, due to difficulties of locations and filming. I have now decided to create a trailer for the same genre. My new production is called 'Get The Girl' the story is based around a male who tries 5 steps in order to get the girl he really likes. I will produce a film poster and a magazine front cover.
